Douglas Clare Fischer (Durand, 22 ottobre 1928 – Los Angeles, 26 gennaio 2012) è stato un pianista, compositore e arrangiatore statunitense.
Biografia |
Originario del Michigan, si è formato alla Università statale del Michigan. Ha iniziato a suonare il piano e a lavorare poi come arrangiatore per il gruppo vocale The Hi-Lo's intorno alla fine degli anni '50. In seguito ha collaborato con Donald Byrd e Dizzy Gillespie e si è fatto apprezzare per il suo contributo in diverse registrazioni di musica latina e bossa nova negli anni '60. Ha composto lo standard latin jazz Morning e quello bossa nova Pensativa.
Ha ricevuto undici volte la nomination ai Grammy Awards vincendo per Clare Fischer & Salsa Picante Present "2 + 2" (Best Latin Recording 1981). Ha vinto due Grammy postumi: 2012 (Best Latin Jazz Album per Ritmo) e 2013 (Best Instrumental Composition). Per oltre trent'anni ha collaborato con il figlio Brent Fischer.
Nel corso della sua carriera ha lavorato come arrangiatore anche con artisti pop e rock quali Prince, Rufus, Robert Palmer, Paul McCartney e Céline Dion.
