Splitting audio stream in ALSA to implement parallel processing

0

I need to split a PCM audio input stream (assume mono for the sake of simplicity) using ALSA, in order to implement parallel processing - that is, sending the same audio to multiple plugins in parallel and mixing back the results, something similar to this diagram:

                     +----------+
| |
+---->| PluginA +---+
| | | |
| +----------+ | +------+
Input | +---->| | Output
+----------+ | Mix +-------->
| +---->| |
| +----------+ | +------+
| | | |
+---->| PluginB +---+
| |
+----------+

I would like to use plain ALSA (i.e. just asoundrc/asound.conf modifications, no JACK/PulseAudio).

How would you implement the arrangement in the diagram? Splitting the same audio to multiple paths seems the more troublesome part, and the (quite poor) ALSA docs do not mention a clear way to do that
