Terraform: Kubernetes & Google Cloud Persistent Disk

0

Having a strange issue which I can't put my finger on...

I'm firing up a GKE cluster using Terraform, works fine. I'm then looking at creating a persistent volume. First creating a persistent disk (works fine), but then Terraform fails when using the PD to create the volume. The error I see is:

* kubernetes_persistent_volume.artifactory-vol: Post https://x.x.x.x/api/v1/persistentvolumes: dial tcp x.x.x.x:443: i/o timeout

I was curious whether it was due to the whole VCP Based vs Routes Based cluster situation, and the fact that maybe there is no route between the cluster in GKE and the disk which is part of the Compute Engine. But I don't see a way in Terraform to be able to switch to a VCP Based cluster.

I can't see anything online indicating a solution to this issue.

Relevant Terraform:

resource "google_compute_disk" "artifactory" {
name = "${var.app_name}"
type = "${var.gc_disk_type}"
zone = "${var.gcp_zone}"
size = "${var.gc_disk_size}"
}

resource "kubernetes_persistent_volume" "artifactory" {
metadata {
name = "${var.app_name}"
}
spec {
capacity {
storage = "${var.kpv_vol_size}"
}
access_modes = ["ReadWriteOnce"]
persistent_volume_source {
gce_persistent_disk {
pd_name = "${google_compute_disk.artifactory.name}"
fs_type = "ext4"
}
}
}
}

resource "kubernetes_persistent_volume_claim" "artifactory" {
metadata {
name = "${var.app_name}"
labels {
app = "${var.app_name}"
}
}
spec {
access_modes = ["ReadWriteOnce"]
resources {
requests {
storage = "${var.kpv_vol_size}"
}
}
volume_name = "${kubernetes_persistent_volume.artifactory.metadata.0.name}"
}
}
