My TFS 2010 XAML build failing frequently. When i check the event viewer i got the below issue and these is no other clue other than this.

Agent2: Cancelled the workflow instance for build
vstfs:///Build/Build/178496 with ID {d7be8f32-8302-4fa9-a22f-11bcc90c7712}.
Exception Type:System.NullReferenceException
Exception Message:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Stack Trace: at
System.Activities.Statements.Throw.Execute(CodeActivityContext context)
at System.Activities.CodeActivity.InternalExecute(ActivityInstance instance,
ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager bookmarkManager)
at System.Activities.ActivityInstance.Execute(ActivityExecutor executor,
BookmarkManager bookmarkManager)System.Activities.Runtime.ActivityExecutor.ExecuteActivityWorkItem.ExecuteBody(ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager bookmarkManager, Location resultLocation)

There is no other way to find out the issue behind. There are some workaround suggested as deleting the version folders under C:UsersAdminAppDataLocalMicrosoftTeam Foundation still it is not an apt solution.

  • You can try to unregister and reregister your agent. And it's time to strongly consider upgrading to a version of TFS that's not 8 years old.
