Import XML in SQL Server with variable content

0

I'm looking for a way to easily import XML data in SQL Server, without having to define all the tables and fields in the file. This is due to the fact that the XMLs differ per customer; some have more/less tables, others have more/less fields.

What I have tried so far:

  1. OpenXML statement in SQL Server --> was not able to get it into a table

  2. Use Sql Server Data Tools --> was not able to set it up dynamically

  3. Import the XML in MS Access, then through linked server to SQL --> Works technically, but unique IDs are removed from the table, making it impossible to link the data to the various tables.

I would hope it would be as easy as importing a CSV, but apparently not! Hope you can help me out.
