Logging with Lograge and Logstash - Rails API integration

0

I can't figure out why there are no logs sent to Kibana from a Rails API app using logrageand logstashdefined s follows in production.rb file:

#config/environments/production.rb

if ENV['RAILS_LOG_TO_STDOUT'].present?
config.log_level = :info
config.lograge.enabled = true
config.lograge.base_controller_class = 'ActionController::API'
config.lograge.formatter = Lograge::Formatters::Logstash.new

config.lograge.custom_options = lambda do |event|
{ :params => event.payload[:params] }
end

config.lograge.logger = LogStashLogger.new(
type: :tcp,
host: ENV['logstash_host'],
port: ENV['logstash_port'],
verify_hostname: false,
sync: true
)

config.lograge.custom_options = lambda do |event|
exceptions = %w[controller action format id]
{
time: event.time,
stack: 'decastore',
host: event.payload[:host],
params: event.payload[:params].except(*exceptions)
}
end
end

I set up RAILS_LOG_TO_STDOUT to true when starting the server in production but still no logs in Kibana ? Any ideas ? Thank you.

  • Kibana is a long way from your app. Have your app print to stdout to confirm that it's working the way you expect. Have logstash do the same. Check the logstash and elasticsearch logs for any errors.
