use variable for plot type in pandas for loop

0

I have the function below where I'm trying to specify a list of categorical columns 'ca_col' and a list of continuous columns 'co_col' ind a pandas dataframe 'd_df' and then specify the type of plot 'p_typ'. So that with the double for loop I create all the plots of the continuous columns by the categorical fields. I'm wondering why I'm getting the error message for p_typ=boxplot, where I know if I just hard coded it as d_df.boxplot(column=i, by=j) it would work fine.

code:

def plotter(ca_col,co_col,d_df,p_typ):
for j in ca_col:
for i in co_col:
d_df.p_typ(column=i,by=j)

plotter(ca_col=cat_col,co_col=cont_col,d_df=data_df,p_typ=boxplot)

error:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
NameError Traceback (most recent call last)
<ipython-input-39-511769ed3787> in <module>()
----> 1 plotter(ca_col=cat_col,co_col=cont_col,d_df=data_df,p_typ=boxplot)

NameError: name 'boxplot' is not defined
