Java redirect bash command input/output - dealing with the bash READ command

0

I have some java code that runs a commands and redirects the input.

One of the scripts I run runs this command: read -s -p "ENTER PASSWORD:"
The problem here is that the redirect doesn't respect the -s param (it prints my password when it's typed).
It also doesn't print the -p but I wrapped read with this code:

read() {
local OPTIND;
local PROMPT;
while getopts ":p:" o;do
case "$o" in p)PROMPT="$OPTARG";;
*) ;;
esac;done
if [[ ! -t 0 && -n "$PROMPT" ]]; then
echo -n "$PROMPT" 1>&2;
fi;
builtin read "$@";
};
export -f read

Any idea how I redirect my java code to work with this?

JAVA CODE:

 Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String{"bash" ,"-c", " trap '' 2 ; (" + bashScript + ") 2>&1"});
Thread err = consumeInput(p.getErrorStream());
Thread std = consumeInput(p.getInputStream());
--start--
p.waitFor();
--join--
--interrupt--

OUTPUT:

Thread consumeOutput(final OutputStream stream) {
return new Thread(() -> {
try (BufferedWriter processOutput = new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(stream))) {
int ch;
while (!Thread.currentThread().isInterrupted() && (ch = System.in.read()) > 0) {
processOutput.write((char) ch);
processOutput.flush();
}
} catch (InterruptedIOException | InterruptedException e){
} catch (IOException e) {
log.warn("IO throwable from stream write", e);
}
});
}

INPUT:

Thread consumeInput(final InputStream stream) {
return new Thread(() -> {
try (BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(stream))) {

int value;

// reads to the end of the stream
while ((value = br.read()) != -1) {

// converts int to character
char c = (char) value;
System.out.print.print(c);

}
} catch (Exception e) {
log.warn("IO throwable from stream read", e);
}
});
}

    I think the problem is you are using Runtime.exec. That is never going to work. Try using ProcessBuilder and call inheritIO.
