select into with symfony and doctrine

i want select only 1 field and put it in a variable like

select dog into variable from nomi;

i have ad update that work

       $em = $this->getDoctrine()->getManager();

$RAW_QUERY = "update  account set surname = '" . "$tok" ."' where id = '" . "$qua" ."' ;"; 

$statement = $em->getConnection()->prepare($RAW_QUERY);

$statement->execute();

       $result = $statement->fetchAll();

but if i put into variable what i must do?

SOLUTION

$repository = $this->getDoctrine()->getManager()->getRepository('AppBundle:Account');



$qb = $repository->createQueryBuilder('t');

$qb->select('(t.id)');

$qb->where('t.name = :name');

$qb->setParameter('name', $u1);

$qua = $qb->getQuery()->getSingleScalarResult();
