I can't update firebase to version 6.1.0

I have the problem, that whenever I try to update firebase, my version is still somehow stuck at 3.17.4.
I run npm install -g firebase-tools
and it downloads the packages. However, if I then run firebase --version
, I still get version 3.17.4. If I run which firebase
, I get /usr/local/bin/firebase
, which seems kinda odd to me.
I have also already tried to install a specific version and restarted the console as suggested here. I’m working on a Mac, version 10.14.1. Node Version 11.1.0. npm Version 6.4.1.
