Create list of pids

2

I would like to create a list with the values of pid that have been used:

pid used
6754 1
9809 1
6434 0
2654 1
7645 1
8979 0
5422 0
1287 1
9875 1
8765 1
7556 0

I have tried the following:

generate list=pid if used==1

However, this command puts everything in a different row.

Can you help me create this list?

The separate() option of the levelsof command is your friend here:

          clear

          input pid used
          6754 1
          9809 1
          6434 0
          2654 1
          7645 1
          8979 0
          5422 0
          1287 1
          9875 1
          8765 1
          7556 0
          end

levelsof pid if used == 1, separate(",") local(pidlist)

This will store all used pid values in a local macro pidlist:

          display "`pidlist'"
          1287,2654,6754,7645,8765,9809,9875

You can then create a variable if you like:

          generate pidlist = "`pidlist'"

          list pidlist in 1

          +------------------------------------+
          | pidlist |
          |------------------------------------|
          1. | 1287,2654,6754,7645,8765,9809,9875 |
          +------------------------------------+

Note that it is always best to avoid variable names, which are used by Stata
          as commands.
