hdfs directory not accessible by webhdfs once high number of data files is stored

0

I created a directory and am storing real-time data files (which I get in large numbers). I am able to access the directory via webhdfs initially but as the number of data files increases after a limit, I am unable to access the directory any more.
The curl command: curl -i "http://host:port/webhdfs/v1/path?op=LISTSTATUS" works fine and lists all the data files.
Also able to navigate the directory structure via hdfs command.
But only webhdfs is not working. It just fails.

WebHDFS is already enabled.
Tried setting the maximum items per directory value to max value.
Tried setting the socket.read_timeout to 300s (5 min), but nothing is of use.

Please suggest.
